Never enter student names or identifying info (names, birthdates, ID numbers, school names, diagnoses tied to a person) here or in any AI tool. Use [Student]. How to run it
- Use a short story or graphic-novel-style scene and talk about the parts of a story first.
- Have the student retell, then tell a personal story about a field trip or a weekend with the same structure.
- Give feedback on one part at a time, such as the problem or the ending.
What to track
- Count story-grammar elements and note use of connecting words and complex sentences.
- Save a sample each session to compare length and organization.
Make it easier or harder
- Easier: Use a graphic organizer and sentence starters.
- Harder: Remove the organizer, or ask for a story with a twist, a plan and feelings for each character.
Home practice
Ask the student to retell a movie or game plot to a family member using the story map.
